We’ve been nomiated! Vote for Us in 2019!
July 16, 2019

Hello to all our Magpie fans! It’s been an exciting week down here at the Magpie Games offices—the birds are chirping, the sun is blindingly hot, and we’re nominated for ENnie and Indie Groundbreaker Awards!

Every year we submit our newest products to the ENnies and IGDN and then wait with bated breath until the winners are announced at Gen Con. With less than a month to go, the nominations have been announced and we’re excited to share the good news with you: we’ve received three ENnie nominations for our work on Bluebeard’s Bride!

In addition, we’ve included instructions on how to vote on the ENnies. Out of the nominees, the winners are determined by number of votes. Every vote counts, so we need your help to go to the voting submission site and support Magpie Games! More detailed instructions can be found below.

ENnies

This year the ENnie nominations have some strong contenders across the categories and we were thrilled to see the names of our friends, associates, and collaborators. A big congratulations goes to Ardens Ludere, Chaosium, Pelgrane, UFO Press Limited, Sweet Potato Press, Avery Alder, Swordfish Islands, Asians Represent, Plot Points, She’s a Super Geek, and so many others!

It’s with great honor that we can say that are counted among those nominated.

Bluebeard’s Bride is a game of feminine horror designed by Marissa Kelly, Sarah Doombringer, and Whitney “Strix” Beltran. It was Kickstarted in 2016 and nominated for an ENnie for Best Production Value in 2018. In the game, you and your friends explore Bluebeard’s home as the bride, encountering rooms that are nightmarish and beautiful, trying to determine the truth about what happened in each one. Bluebeard’s Bride is a PbtA game based off of the French fairytale of Bluebeard and draws inspiration from sources like American Horror Story and Crimson Peak.

Bluebeard’s Bride: Book of Mirrors is the most recently released supplement. It has five new and terrifying settings for you to explore. You can play a female guard at a correctional facility, a newly-arrived showgirl at a carnival in shambles, a patient in a condemned asylum, a boarding school governess at an all-boys school on holiday, or even Bluebeard’s son, returned to claim his legacy.

Book of Mirrors was nominated for Best Cover Art, for which the credit goes to the wonderful Rebecca Yanovskaya for her beautiful artwork, as well as our very own art director, Marissa Kelly.

It was also nominated for Best Layout and Design, thanks to Miguel Angel Espinoza, with whom we have had the pleasure of working for layout on many of our projects.

Book of Lore , another one of our Bluebeard supplements, was nominated for Best RPG Related Product. It was written in collaboration with writer Liz Chaipraditkul. It’s a book of fiction, containing an illustrated retelling of the Bluebeard fairytale. As you move through the pages and the hallucinogenic images, you are faced with a horrible choice: what is the fate of Bluebeard’s newest bride?

How Do I Vote?

ENnie voting can be found here. You’ll find us under Best Cover Art, Best Layout, and Best RPG Related Product.

Once you’ve clicked on the category you want to vote for, rank our Bluebeard supplements as #1. You’re also given the opportunity to pick and 2nd and 3rd choice, so go through the list and see what other amazing products there are to vote for. Once you click “vote”, it will input your opinions and take you back to the list of categories.

After you’ve voted, tell your friends! The ENnies depend on fan participation, so our fate is in your hands!

The winners will be announced on the evening of August 2nd at Union Station. We can hardly wait!

Indie Groundbreaker Awards

The Indie Groundbreaker Awards are facilitated by the Indie Game Developer Network, an organization focused on bringing new voices to the community and supporting those designers who have been traditionally underrepresented. It’s been a pleasure to see the IGDN grow into what it is today, and to be able to see the wide scope of projects represented in the Indie Groundbreaker Awards.

The nominations we received this year are also for supplements of Bluebeard’s Bride

Book of Rooms is a supplement designed to help the Groundskeeper haunt the players in the most exquisitely twisted way. Fully illustrated, it moves you through the different rooms of Bluebeard’s home, providing suggestions for the objects and creatures the players might encounter there.

Book of Rooms was nominated for Indie Groundbreaker Awards in Best Art and Best Setting.

Additionally, Book of Lore was also nominated for Best Art!

We’re lucky to have had so many amazing people working on these products– some of whom were nominated for IGAs for other products as well. Liz Chaipraditkul, who collaborated with us to write for Book of Rooms and Book of Lore, has been nominated for Best Setting and Game of the Year for her game Familiars of Terra. Likewise, Felipe Real wrote for Book of Rooms and has been nominated for The Way of Pukona, also for Best Setting. So many congratulations to both of them, and to everyone else nominated!
